Longevity Shorts: This beverage may give you 10 more years of life

Hello, I’m Nils. Welcome to Longevity Shorts. These one minute videos will give you tips that might increase your lifespan. They’re not intended as medical advice.

High blood sugar is associated with higher rates of type 2 diabetes. A 2010 report estimated that type 2 diabetes can reduce life expectancy by up to 10 years on the average.

If your goal is to lower your blood sugar, there’s evidence that drinking water can help.

According to the CDC, when we’re dehydrated, our blood becomes thicker and our blood sugar level rises. Drinking four or more 8-ounce glasses of water a day has been found to have a protective effect.

In a recent study in France, the researchers tested over 3,600 men and women, with an eye on their sugar levels. Those who drank more than 34 ounces of water a day were 21% less likely to develop high blood glucose over the next nine years, compared with those drinking 16 ounces or less.
